The British Museum is barely five minutes’ walk from Central school of English, located in the Bloomsbury area of London. With one of the World’s greatest collections of artefacts (more than 8 million pieces), it is often a source of inspiration for the students’ Team Projects.
An example of a Team Project is the British Museum treasure Hunt. One group of students research and design a series of challenges and questions base don objects around the museum. The rest of the students divide into teams and use the clues provides to find each artefact. The first team to exit the museum with the challenge completed wins the prize. With the challenge completed, we pause in the front courtyard to study the museum’s façade. Modelled on a classical Greek colonnade design, it features 44 iconic columns, topped by a frieze showing the progress of civilisation. This depiction is a perfect introduction to the museum’s collection, which spans history, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginning to the present.
